The Foundation for American Innovation was founded in 2014 with a mission to help bridge the gap between Silicon Valley and DC, advancing a more perfect union between technology and the American republic.

To help advance this mission, FAI is seeking to hire a Manager or Director focused on technology, media, and digital free expression. This role will report to the Head of Policy and will be responsible for producing original research and commentary, developing policy events and convenings, and other work supporting the FAI team. This is a hybrid full-time position located in either Washington, DC or San Francisco, CA. Extraordinary candidates who live in other areas will also be considered. Click here to apply now. Responsibilities

  • Produce original research papers, op-eds, and other content that address relevant issues in this policy space.
  • Support programming for FAI fellowships and events, including speaking on panels, teaching sessions, and curating expert speakers.
  • Periodic travel for FAI events in major US tech hubs, including San Francisco, New York, Miami, and Austin.

Qualifications

  • Enthusiastic support for the FAI’s mission and worldview, including balanced techno-optimism, in-the-weeds reform tactics, and market-oriented outlook.
  • Entrepreneurial and able to thrive in a horizontally-organized work environment.
  • Highly-refined writing and communication skills.
  • Fluency with academic/think tank research best practices and style. An ideal candidate has past single-author publication history in policy journals and national media outlets.
  • Extreme attention to detail. Enjoys working in the weeds.
  • Deep subject matter expertise one or more areas of tech policy, including laws, regulations, and jurisprudence (i.e., you can confidently say, "I'm an expert in X," and nit pick other people's work in that area). Relevant policy areas for this role may include: digital free expression, global and domestic Internet regulation, content moderation, telecom, news/media, copyright, digital privacy, interoperability/decentralized web.
  • Bonus but not required: College degree in a related field (e.g. economics, politics, law, or STEM); Law degree (JD or LLM); Programming or data skills.
