Some good news worth sharing with the FAI community: our colleague Dean W. Ball is joining OpenAI as Head of Strategic Futures on July 6.
Few people have shaped AI policy as directly as Dean, from his writing at Hyperdimensional, to his co-authorship of the White House AI Action Plan, to the body of AI governance and technology research he built here at FAI. Putting someone of his caliber at the center of OpenAI’s policy work is good news for continued American leadership at the frontier.
Happily, Dean will stay on with FAI as a non-resident senior fellow, so this is closer to an expansion of our relationship than an exit. Congratulations, Dean. We're proud of you, and proud to keep working alongside you.
