Robert Smith serves as General Counsel to Chairman Ted Cruz on the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. He previously led congressional investigations for the committee as Deputy Chief Counsel for Oversight and Investigations. Robert also practiced as an attorney at Sidley Austin LLP, served as Special Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary for the Supreme Court confirmation of Justice Amy Coney Barrett, and clerked for Judge Eric E. Murphy on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Robert earned a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and an A.B., cum laude, from Dartmouth College.
