Lincoln Network is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2014 with a mission to help bridge the gap between Silicon Valley and DC from a pro-market, pro-innovation perspective. Since our policy and programming team’s founding in July 2018, we’ve expanded from a team of two to a staff of seven, expanding our projects to new areas including election security, cybersecurity, and future of media.
This post is an updated version of our post from last year, reflecting our commitment to independence and transparency about our funding. We are incredibly thoughtful about the donations we accept, and do not allow the interests of donors to influence our work or set our policy positions inappropriately.
When starting a new initiative, our model has always been to begin working on a project before we seek dedicated program support for it. As a result, the majority of our support is allocated to general operations, not project-specific gifts.
Our funding mix reflects these principles, and Lincoln deliberately focuses fundraising efforts on foundations and individuals rather than corporations. In 2019, Lincoln's annual budget was $2.6 million. Our funding mix was 88% from foundations, 5% from individuals, and 7% from corporations. We project a similar mix for 2020.
Our current major supporters include the Searle Freedom Trust, the Sarah Scaife Foundation, the John S. and James L.
