The Foundation for American Innovation was founded in 2014 with a mission to help bridge the gap between Silicon Valley and DC, advancing a more perfect union between technology and the American republic.

To help advance this mission, FAI is seeking to hire a Manager or Director, Events and Marketing. This role will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will be responsible for the planning and execution of FAI events as well as other administrative support. This is a hybrid full-time position located in either Washington, DC or San Francisco, CA. Extraordinary candidates who live in other areas will also be considered.


  • Leading the planning and execution of FAI events, including conferences, team retreats, salon dinners, and receptions.
  • Drafting each event’s budget and closely monitor and document expenses
  • Working with the executive team to formulate a strategic plan for events and marketing.
  • Develop and oversee brand voice and external communications strategy and processes
  • Working with the research manager to draft external communications and email newsletters.
  • Manage marketing email calendar. Test, monitor, and optimize for list performance.
  • Manage lists and data flows across different platforms, including Salesforce, Campaign Monitor, Legistorm, and Luma.
  • Support fellowship recruitment, operations, and curriculum development in coordination with the Director of Partnerships
  • Domestic travel 2-4 times per quarter including some weekends.


  • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record and strong skills in operations, event planning and execution, marketing, and internal stakeholder management.
  • Enthusiastic support for FAI’s mission and a desire to learn about FAI’s unique, distributed community of builders, hackers, and policy experts.
  • Superb attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a drive to take initiative.
  • Highly refined communication skills, both written and verbal, to communicate complex ideas through both traditional and social media forms.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel, Word, and collaboration via Google Docs.
  • CRM and email marketing experience preferred.
  • Adobe suite (Illustrator, Premiere) experience is a plus, but not required.
